PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

 

Holyoke Public Schools is offering an exciting new program for middle school students next year.  The program will utilize the rich digital curriculum of Summit Public Schools, a national pioneer in personalized learning.  Summit Public Schools has partnered with Stanford University and with Mark Zuckerberg to create an educational program that provides students with a rigorous curriculum and utilizes a technology rich environment to efficiently manage student’s access to their educational program.  Stanford University provided Summit with a framework for its curriculum that ensures that it meets state and national standards and Zuckerberg has committed the skills of Facebook systems engineers who maintain online access to the curriculum for schools that are part of what is becoming a national network.  The program relies heavily upon teachers serving as mentors to students as they learn to take ownership of their learning and establish direction for their futures. Job description: 

  • Provide English Language Arts Instruction to 6- 8th grade students.
  • Assist and advise students as they work on the Summit Personalized Learning Platform.
  • Work with students during daily intervention/acceleration blocks.
  • Provide mentor support to individuals and groups within the program.
  • Participate actively with program staff to plan and to execute a program that builds a sense of community among students.
  • Work tirelessly with program staff to reach out to the community and provide access to program to all families.

Qualifications:       

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Eligible for Massachusetts ELA certification
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
  • Interest in promoting the emotional health of all students
  • Full time teaching experience, preferred
  • Experience working in an urban setting, preferred
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills and a stated interest in building a new program
  • Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply
