JOB DUTIES:

  1. Using State CVTE Frame works and strands, teaches occupational skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in the Automotive Technology  field. 
  2. Develops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time. 
  3. Demonstrates occupational materials, equipment, instruments, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mockups, sketches, and other instructional aides.
  4. Guide students in the selection and performance of appropriate activities
  5. Provides individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the students and the requirements of the activities being performed
  6. Instructs students in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of instruments and equipment.
  7. Controls the storage, maintenance, and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse
  8. Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom.
  9. Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual student progress
  10. Evaluates each student’s performance, knowledge, and skills in the course being taught, as well as prepares progress report.
  11. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides, equipment, instruments, materials, supplies, and parts required while working under established budgets and procedures.
  12. Plan, prepare and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture and/or laboratory formats based on the approved curriculam. 
  13. Lead and manage students and direct learning activities in the classroom, laboratory, and shop. 
  14. Ensure that all classes start and end at the prescribed times. 
  15. Provide quality delivery of assigned courses using the appropriate methods, including teaching, tutoring, and lecturing.
  16. Evaluate and assist in the resolution of student issues and problems, and ensure to take appropriate action to the satisfaction of the student and in compliance with the policies, procedures and legal requirements of the Company and/or regulatory agencies.
  17. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times. 
  18. Communicate, support and enforce school policies and procedures; advise students accordingly. Advise students on attendance, grades and discipline issues as necessary. 
  19. Complete, in a timely and accurate manner, all required forms such as those related to attendance, grade reports, mid-term reports, student advising forms and all other assigned educational materials. 
  20. Maintain accurate daily attendance records and communicate any attendance concerns to the CTE Director. 
  21. Provide students with academic support, tutoring, and skills enhancement as necessary. 
  22. Secure and utilize approved course materials and teaching methods in order to ensure that the needs of the students are met. 
  23. Prepare and organize the lesson materials, equipment, and training area. 
  24. Develop training aids and projects relevant to the subject matter taught. 
  25. Provide relevant enrichment to class teaching from personal experience. 
  26. Motivate students by demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, sensitivity for their concerns. Actively involve them in classroom discussions and/or activities. Identify different student learning styles and adjust accordingly. 
  27. Ensure that all educational activity is conducted in an ethical manner. 
  28. Earn and update required certifications and development programs in accordance with the Company’s requirements for the assigned instructional position. 
  29. Contribute to the curriculum review process. 
  30. Where applicable, visit externship or internship sites and complete the required documentation. 
  31. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Medium/Heavy Truck certification preferred.
  • Current certification in at least one area of diesel technology is required.
  • Five (5) years recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to automotive/diesel technology.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as an Automotive/Diesel Technology instructor
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
  • Experience working in an urban setting, preferred
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills

Required license(s):

  • Massachusetts Vocational Instructor Certification in Automotive Technology, 9-14
