Description

Dual Language Spanish Teacher

POSITION OVERVIEW

Holyoke Public Schools currently has three Dual Language Programs, which are housed at Joseph Metcalf School, E.N. White School and Kelly School. In the 2014-2015 school year the Holyoke Public Schools established our first dual language program at the Joseph Metcalf School. Holyoke Public Schools continues to expand our programming to support our vision of “a pathway for every student.” In 22-23, Metcalf will be a full PK-8 program, while we expand a grade level each year at both EN White and Kelly.

The goals of the program are for children to become fluent speakers, readers and writers of English and Spanish. Students will become bilingual and biliterate and achieve grade level standards in both program languages.  Additionally, they will be able to build friendships with children of other cultures while sharing their own cultural backgrounds and language experiences. We aim to achieve full bi-literacy, bilingualism and biculturalism through our 50/50 two way model, in which students learn half of the day in English and half of the day in Spanish.
